Concern Worldwide, Bangladesh has been Implementing Programme titled “Integrated Nutrition Interventions for Malnutrition Treatment and Prevention in Rohingya Camps, Cox’s Bazar (Funded by UNHCR and WFP).

Job Purpose:
She is responsible for overseeing all medical assessment and treatment of Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) children with medical complication in the stabilization centres. She will also play role to identify SAM and MAM and ensure referral to the appropriate nutrition components (OTP/TSFP). She will also ensure standard action protocol for SAM management during treatment and assign nutrition and health related services. The SC Nurse will be responsible to perform other activities requested by her supervisor based on project needs.
Main duties & responsibilities:
  • Identification of SAM children with medical complication to determine the eligibility of SC admission and SAM children without medical complication & MAM children to ensure the referral to OTP/TSFP by screening of children under five years at the SAM corner using MUAC tape and Weight for Height Z-Score.
  • Clinical assessment to evaluate the medical complication and appetite test conduction.
  • Decide which patients should be admitted rapidly with an abbreviation history and examination after formal admission and the start of treatment.
  • Ensure the dispensing ReSoMol for diarrheal cases and 10% Glucose for Hypoglycaemia cases with close monitoring.
  • Preparation for F-75 and F-100 and maintain standard feeding on phases.
  • Calculation, preparation, distribution and monitoring of therapeutic milk according to the standard protocols for the beneficiaries.
  • Monitor, prevent and treat hypothermia and hypoglycaemia in consultation with the in-charge doctor.
  • Recording anthropometric measurement of the children (height, weight, MUAC, checking bilateral oedema and WFH percentage)
  • Explain the treatment procedures to caregivers in the SC and use 24 hours feeding chart to ensure nutrition treatment.
  • Provide sensory stimulation and stricter play therapy.
  • Implement systematic treatment according to the national and sectoral guidelines for the management of severely malnourished children in Bangladesh (Vitamin A, Deworming, Antibiotics and vaccinations).
  • Follow up and implement of the medical treatment for severe acute malnourished children in the SC.
  • Encourage breastfeeding and initiate supplementary suckling technique (SST) for appropriate infants.
  • Prepare for discharge (anthropometric measurements, medical and nutritional treatment, systematic treatment, and health and nutrition educations) and approval from the in-charge doctors.
  • Identification of absence and defaulters from SC and follow up at home through community medical assistant and volunteers.
  • Conduct counselling on IYCF among mothers/Caregivers, demonstrate standard attachment and positioning of breastfeeding and keep proper recording.
  • Keep up-to-date information about food and medicine stock for SC and keep tracking of different necessary equipment for ensuring proper treatment and records. Prepare therapeutic feeding products, medicine and other materials requisitions prior to out of stock.
  • Ensure quality of the volunteers work during their roster
  • Maintain Proper communication, Coordination and liaison internally and externally based on need.
  • Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s policies and procedures (P4, finance, logistics, HR, security management etc.
  • Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Country Director or the line manager.

  • Actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E);
  • Work with relevant colleagues  to ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed;
  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff behaviour is disseminated among programme participants and communities.
Key Requirements:
Person specifications:
  • BSc in Nursing with valid BNMC registration (MPH Degree might add preference)
  • Around 02 years’ progressive experience in a similar/related activities. (For highly technical candidates, experience is considerable).
  • Technical knowledge on Community management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), care practices, C-MAMI and IYCF/E programming.
  • Having good knowledge on Rohingya refugee programmes will add value.
  • Only Female are considerable as the staff member needs to work closely with mothers and children.
  • Demonstrate ability to think and manage strategically, plan and meet deadlines.
  • Good command and Fluency in Bengali and English (optional).
